Drug and alcohol education is the most effective method of substance abuse prevention. It can help younger individuals learn the complete story about drugs - balancing the misinformation youth generally receive about drugs from their friends, the street and the media. Youth are provided strategies for drawing their own conclusions about the dangers and long-term effects of drug-use, and gaining control of risky situations rather than being controlled by them.

Drug prevention education is more than teaching the facts about drugs -- it is teaching youth about themselves, what is possible in their life now, and what is possible for the future. Drug education develops the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to promote an individual’s responsibility toward the use of drugs and alcohol, both now and in their future lives. Work In Progress offers educational programs that are designed to engage teens in honest and straight forward dialogue, while providing messages that have a foundation of accurate, factual information.

The Teen Education Program is available to individuals aged 12 to 17. Class meets once per week and continues for 6 consecutive weeks. Sessions are scheduled for 2 hours, and will cover 12 topics. All 12 sessions must be attended for successful completion, and enrollment is on-going.
